Debarati Sen is currently a Professor of Telecommunication Engineering at IIT-Kharagpur, India. She was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow with Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, and a Senior Chief Engineer with Samsung Research, Bangalore, India prior to join IIT Kharagpur in 2013. In 2014, Dr. Sen was a visiting faculty with Technical University of Munich, Germany; and in 2019, she was an academic visitor with Monash University, Australia. She has about 15 years of R&D and academic experience related to Wireless Communications including Interdisciplinary Computing, mostly on 5G/6G Communications, AI enabled Wireless, Millimeter Wave and Terahertz Communications, Quantum Signal Processing, Green Communications etc. She is interested in determining the theoretical limitations of systems, and how they guide the architecture of next generation communication. While most of her work is mathematical tools based, the problems she takes originate from practical engineering considerations. Her research is supported by a variety of Govt. Organizations including MHRD, MeitY, Min. of HI&PE, BEL, HAL, DST, DRDO, SERB, Indian Railways and external collaborators like Samsung, AIRBUS, Qualcomm, TI, Ericsson, PwC, Rosenberger etc. She has more than 40 patents to her credit and has published more than 150 papers in Journals and Conferences of repute.
Debarati has contributed to standardization research accepted in global telecommunication standardization body and also contributed her expertise as a member of several government bodies, including TSDSI, TCOE, Bharat 6G Alliance, Bharat 5G Labs, AICTE etc. She was an Editorial Board Member of two international journals. She has received Best Paper Award at IEEE ANTS-2016, IE(I) Young Engineers Award 2010, IETE NVG Memorial Award 2013, DAAD-IIT Faculty Fellowship 2014, Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship 2017, Faculty Excellence Award IIT-Kharagpur 2020, SERB POWER Fellowship 2023. She is a Senior Member of IEEE, Fellow of IE(I) and IETE.
