You are free to use the Writing Center for independent study between classes. We offer a space less formal than the Library, but more structured than the Cafeteria. If you will be using the area for Independent Study, please ensure that you sign-in (when you arrive) and sign-out (when you leave).
We have a variety of English textbooks available for you to use while in the Writing Center. Ask an available Tutor to see our collection.
We offer students the ability to use new laptops and computers within the Writing Center office for academic purposes.
We currently have two bookshelves with books free for the taking. Grab one or a few next time you visit. Also, if you have some books you no longer want to hang on to, you can leave them on our shelves as well.
The Writing Center holds workshops every semester. These workshops serve as supplements to concepts you may be learning in your composition courses. Examples of workshops we host include:
Analysis | Thesis Statement | Organization | Grammar | Paragraph Structure | Refining Topics | Topic Invention | They Say, I Say | Critical Reading Strategies | Rhetorical Moves | (Anti) Plagiarism
Additional Workshops may be offered as well. In the past, we have done other topics such as Poetry, Novella, and APA Citation Workshops. Workshops will be announced in advance, and instructors will be notified. Look out for our bulletin board announcements and fliers throughout the English & Communications building.
