Imagine safe places of caring relationships where you can share, laugh, cry, pray, eat, and study God's word as described in Acts. Many already exist. Now, imagine these diverse small groups from various denominational or non-denominational backgrounds coming together monthly for service, worship, and fellowship.

This is the simple way of "being church" that allows for unity and cooperation with others who likewise love God, but belong to other denominations. Our different applications of biblical principles can become our strength if we are willing to build these bridges with others who are faithful followers of Jesus. Our gatherings are never on Sunday mornings so that people are encouraged to remain in their own denominations or non-denominational groups.
Jesus prayed "they will all be one, just as you and I are one..." (John 17:21) This model allows for our differences on interpretation of application of secondary issues because of our agreement to the "non-negotiables" of our faith as expressed in the three creeds of the historic Christian beliefs: Apostles, Nicene, Athanasian.

As part of his doctoral praxis, Bob Ayres called together a 'think-tank" to look at difficult questions about the future of the church in DeafWorld. Represented in this gathering of twelve were those of ten different denominations. Each of these ministry leaders has a heart for youth and young adults ministry. This perspective is key when considering future contexts and paradigms. Each contributed valuable insights and input. This doctoral research produced the foundational insight which ultimately became DeafChurch Together model.

Bob asked his friend and colleague, Rick McClain to co-author a book based on this research. DEAFCHURCH 21: Vision for a New Generation provides the practical and theological insight for application of this church-planting model. Our prayer is for others to replicate this model for the glory of God and benefit of DeafWorld.
