Once upon a time, believe it or not
I was young, I know it’s a shock
But there you have it, I wasn’t born like this
Although I had no hair then, well perhaps just a whisp
But as I grew up, I never imagined
That beyond life’s mean age, the world is all maddened
Where once there was reason, now nothing makes sense
I thought I was clever, no actually I’m dense
How so you ask, I’ll explain with my passion
To me, music is king, my constant companion
Music was found, in round pieces of plastic
When they were pictured or coloured, I’d feel so ecstatic
But today’s musical medium is literally digital magic
No physical form, I find it quite tragic
I just about understood, how grooves made sound
Tape was more of a challenge, as the spindle unwound
But an MP3 file, just some 1s, and some 0s
Sounds better than vinyl, controversial, I know
It’s baffling is it not, the work of mischievous daemons
Out comes this sound with no rhyme or reason
An entire back catalogue takes precisely no space!
Instead of the loft, or other suitable place
And you can listen to this, without any wires
Stream all over the house, to your hearts desires
And even more 1s, and even more 0s
Makes our world go around, with life’s ebbs and flows
Bluetooth in my day, was a mythical Norse God
But now immortalised in tech, isn’t that odd?
Where once you purchased, now you subscribe
No longer to own, is the musical vibe
But hold on just a minute, it’s not all bad
I’ve found an upside, I’m no longer sad
Because now the music that I can create
I can release on the net, for other to rate
I get instant feedback, comments and likes
From all over the world, a chord it may strike
So while I may be confused, eternally baffled
I’m so busy creating, I’m no longer rattled
The morale of this tale, I hope is clear
Don’t worry, things change, and you shouldn’t fear
As time ticks by as the Earth is revolving
Enjoy the ride, it’s all evolving.
