Try to listen to as much (mostly classical) music as you can bear and reading around various composers
2. Have a good general understanding of music history
3. It's recommended to do practice essays because this is quite a difficult skill to master right away and it's definitely worth the extra practice if you are thinking of going on to do a degree in music as you might be asked for one as part of your application
