Welcome to Reception! The Early Years are the most important years of a child's life. We strive to ensure that children are happy in their school environment and encourage a love of learning for life. We aim to provide a rich stimulating environment for the children; one which enables them to grow into independent problem solvers, with strong communication skills and a zest for life and learning.

General Information

Healthy Lunchbox

We encourage you to provide healthy snacks for both break time and lunch time. Children need healthy snacks to help them grow and stay healthy and what they snack on is important. If you give your child healthy snacks now, he or she will learn to make healthy food choices in the future.

Please keep in mind;

Snacks should be kid-size.
Snacks should be colourful.
Snacks should be healthy.
Drinks should be served in small portions, about 1/2 a cup each. Water or 100% juice is a healthy choice.

Also, please ensure your child brings a labeled water bottle to school each day and pop it in the box outside the classroom door.

Behavior Management

Our main visual strategy is the 'Traffic Light' system. Along side this we also use positive praise, 'Caught Being Good' tokens and 'Class Dojo' points to reinforce good behaviour.

Children will self-register and begin on green at the beginning of each day.
After recieving a polite warning, if the undersirable behaviour continues they will be moved to orange.
If they receive a third warning they will be moved to red, which results in a 'time out' in order to reflect on their behaviour and consider their choices.
If the process continues to be repeated they will spend a 'time out' in another classroom.
Displays of anger or hurting others will result in being moved straight to red.
You will be informed if your child continues to make undesirable choices in the classroom.

Assessment

Each child will have a 'Learning Journal' which will show your child's experiences through photographs, work samples and observations in Reception.
There will be two parent consultations throughout the year - usually November and April.
Reports will be given out at the end of the academic year.
