Jordan Polk making plays for the New England Patriots
Jordan Polk of the New England Patriots had a solid night in his first NFL preseason game. Polk, undrafted rookie cornerback, saw his first action at the professional level and the lights were definitely not too bright.
Like most rookies, it Polk a few snaps to get settled but once he did he began to look comfortable and confident. After going undrafted, Polk is in a dog fight for limited spots on the Patriots roster. Assuming the Pats keep six cornerbacks (Gonzalez, Davis III, Jones, Austin) it leaves two spots for rookies to work their way into.
Of the remaining Pats cornerbacks, two hauled in interceptions in the season opener (DJ James) and one was Jordan Polk. Something that definitely has to be taken into consideration during the evaluation process.
Jordan Polk on his experience, "I could've done way better but I'm blessed that none of my mistakes take talent to fix. I'm grateful the Lord has blessed me like he has. This has been my dream since four years old."
You'd think Polk would be ecstatic after hauling in his first NFL takeaway. But, Polk is referring to two plays that made his performance more even kill than it should have been. Before Polk made his game changing interception, he missed a tackle off the edge in the third quarter. After the play, Polk immediately knew he was at fault. The run ended up scampering for about an extra six yards.
It was the next drive, where Polk came up HUGE with an interception and a GREAT return to set the Pats up scoring position. After that chain of events, Polk had a pretty quiet night -- until late in the fourth quarter. On one of the last drives of the game, Polk was beat on a whip route in on the goal line. After watching the rep, Polk has a case for offensive PI but that's neither here nor there.
All in all, we give him a C+ for his Game 1 Performance.
Game 2 vs. the Minnesota Vikings was a much better outing holistically. Polk made gamechanging plays in on defense coming up huge with a sack. He followed that up with strong special teams play as well, running down the preseason standout Myles Price.
It is uncertain if Polk will make the Patriots 53-man roster, but, one thing is undeniable... Polk has proven he belongs in the NFL!
