The Cox arboretum is part of the 5 Rivers Metroparks system which includes nineteen parks in the Dayton area. There is no charge to enter the Cox Arboretum and there is ample parking readily available. It has a butterfly home and a maze for kids plus a view 65 foot tower to get the whole picture of the gardens. It is likewise an ideal venue for special occasions. We saw a wedding event there, and it was very picturesque. The Cox arboretum is ideal for a picnic or just accompanying loved ones on a lazy afternoon.
The arboretum was developed in 1962 when James M. Cox, Jr., and family donated their property to a not-for-profit structure, which continues to assist money the arboretum. In 1972 the land was provided to 5 Rivers Metroparks in a public/private collaboration.
This is a great location to unwind and enjoy nature. The ponds and surrounding landscape are kept carefully and there are constantly geese and and other birds to observe

The Butterfly House and the Treehouse were a lot fun to experience. There are several walking trails which I enjoyed. I will absolutely be returning to so I can see just how remarkable the trails are, but's a little small if you are looking for major hike . They have a fantastic selection of flowers, which only adds appeal to your experience. If you have the opportunity to go, make a day of it. Pack a lunch, maybe bring some balls to kick or toss back-and-forth or perhaps a blanket and a book and enjoy it under the trees. No matter what your satisfaction is, the setting and environment will leave you wanting more.
The Butter Fly House
My 6 year old daughter like the butterfly house but she wished there were more butterflies. :)
You know you've hit Dayton regional gold when you're barely half-way through your tour and already plotting a return with friends. We can't wait to come back to stroll the grounds and take in all the incredible beauty this great garden provides.
