Video Projects

I wanted to give my students a large task over the course of a month. I wanted them to use their amazing comptuer skills to make videos to explain some complex topics in Biology. The students wrote their own information, made their own images, created their own files and animations. The task was asssessed by me based on success criteria and the students self assessed and peer assessed their own work, participation and their own performance in this large group task. It was impressive to see the students communicating so effectively in English with such complex material

The results were amazing and I want to share their work here. This was for grade 11 HL and SL IB DP Biology.

The topics were:

  • DNA Replication
  • Transcription and Translation
  • Respiration

Biology Fair and

Organ System Project

The Biology Fair was the culmination of a 2 month long process of the students learning about the different organ systems in the body.

I wanted the students to do a large culminating project to make a model, present something, display something and that others in the school could be able to see it, visit and interact.

Biology Competition

I designed the Biology Competition for all the grade 10 students as a way to build interest in the subject. I created a pub-quiz style competition where there were themed questions, labelling and picture rounds. I purchased buzzers and made it into a real competition with audience members and a final individual round.

Information Posters

I use information posters as tools for the students to consolidate and summarize their understandings. We develop success criteria togethr and the purpose of the activity is that the students can use their posters as study aids during exam revisions. I display them on the wall outside of the classroom and inside and students in any class use them for Biology such as they would a textbook.

I have showcased some of the best on the site.
