The results of success are often discussed and highly visible, however the process of success is many times invisible and hidden from view. ~ Unknown
Dear Dawn to Dusk Community,
In this edition of our newsletter, I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible Dawn to Dusk team. Their dedication to supporting our participants, their families, and our broader community is the heartbeat of everything we do.
Leadership at Every Level
It has been inspiring to watch our more tenured coworkers step into leadership roles—both formally and informally. By taking on new responsibilities and frequently stepping out of their comfort zones, they are setting a powerful example. Simultaneously, our newer coworkers are breathing fresh energy into our center, bringing new perspectives while learning the ropes from their senior mentors.
The Rhythm of Our Day
Every program day begins long before the sun rises. Some of our team members start as early as 5:00 AM (and occasionally earlier!) to coordinate transportation. As our buses depart between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM, the rest of the team is already in motion:
Clinical & Medical: Nursing, therapy, and behavioral services preparing for specialized care.
Operations: Food services and facility preparation.
Programming: Organizing activities and outings to ensure every participant has a meaningful day.
By the time our doors open at 8:30 AM, the stage is set for a wonderful experience. While things run seamlessly most of the time, I am most proud of how we handle the "bumps." When challenges arise, as sometimes they do, it is heartening to see teamwork, accountability, reflective approach and investigative analysis to help us become better.
Going Above and Beyond
We have seen extraordinarily driven team members recently, particularly from those who ensured our services remained top-notch despite disruptions beyond our control. I am especially grateful to the team members who worked tirelessly in the cold during our recent snowstorms to get us back on track.
Investing in the Future
Through December and January, our leadership team developed and launched a revamped curriculum and training schedule. This was implemented for the first time with our January 19th, 2026, new-hire class. It was heartening to see the team take full responsibility and ownership of each of their parts and work with our new coworkers with minimal involvement and direction from me. Our leadership team also guides me with important decisions and plays an important role in organization governance. I also see our hiring process getting better as we have learned over time what kind of employees work best for Dawn to Dusk and vice versa.
All in all, I feel grateful and fortunate that we have a great team at Dawn to Dusk. While we may not be perfect in all areas, we are always willing to learn and keep getting better. The Best is Yet to Come!

It is our pleasure at Dawn to Dusk to offer a schedule of activities that provide opportunities for learning and continued education. Our activities are specifically designed to address these four pillars of health and wellbeing:
activities of daily life skill-building,
various forms of creative self-expression,
activities that promote physical and mental wellbeing, and
activities to support leisure skills, hobbies, and recreation.

Building Independence
Through the “What’s Cooking?” activity, participants worked on developing practical life skills by preparing applesauce muffins from start to finish. With staff support and step by step guidance, participants practiced reading and following directions, identifying ingredients and utensils, measuring wet and dry ingredients, and mixing components together. Tasks such as pouring, stirring, and using kitchen tools supported fine motor skills, coordination, and attention to detail. Participants demonstrated patience and independence as they completed each step of the recipe, taking pride in their teamwork and growing confidence in the kitchen. This activity provided a meaningful opportunity to build independence through real world cooking skills in a structured and supportive environment.
Creative Self Expression
Participants explored creativity through the “Beads, Buttons, and More” activity by designing winter inspired snowflakes. Using a variety of beads and materials in cool, wintery colors, participants carefully threaded and arranged their pieces to bring each snowflake to life. This activity encouraged focus, creativity, and fine motor coordination as participants made choices about color, pattern, and design. Fitting for the recent snowstorm, the finished snowflakes reflected both seasonal inspiration and individual expression, with participants proudly sharing their completed creations.
Participants continued to take part in Health Matters sessions, staying active and energized throughout the winter months. While colder weather can make it tempting to slow down, our participants remained motivated and engaged, following exercises modeled by staff that promoted movement, strength, and flexibility. Activities included standing exercises, stretching, and guided motions that helped participants break a sweat while staying comfortable and supported alongside their peers. These sessions emphasized the importance of staying active, building healthy routines, and supporting both physical and mental well being during the winter season.
Participants enjoyed a fun and engaging Tangram activity that blended problem solving with friendly competition. Using colorful shapes, participants worked independently to match designs, building visual scanning, shape recognition, and focus. As confidence grew, the activity naturally turned into a game, with participants timing themselves to see who could complete their tangram the fastest. Some chose to work with a partner, practicing collaboration, communication, and turn taking while supporting one another. Laughter, encouragement, and shared excitement filled the room as participants challenged themselves and each other, making this a meaningful leisure activity that supported both cognitive skills and social connection.
Throughout January, participants continued exploring the community through a variety of outings that supported independence, social skills, and engagement outside the center. Teams visited locations such as South Brunswick Library, Plainsboro Library, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and Quaker Bridge Mall. These outings provided opportunities to practice community navigation, decision making, patience, and appropriate social behavior while engaging in familiar and enjoyable environments.
Lunch Outings:
January lunch outings offered participants meaningful opportunities to practice ordering, communication, money management, and dining etiquette in real world settings. Teams enjoyed meals at locations including Taco Bell, CAVA, Perkins, and Jersey Mike’s, along with team choice lunch outings that encouraged planning and shared decision making. These experiences supported confidence, independence, and positive social interaction while enjoying time together in the community.
