The IMechE design challenge was to model a vehicle that would carry a given volume of material and travel back and forth in a straight line. A fellow group member gave the idea of using tank treads to tackle these challenges and tasked me to model it. I made one chain link and used a pattern utility to wrap it around the sprocket. I then made the main body with the given volume in mind. I had to carefully calculate the dimensions of the treads and sprocket so that they would not only fit the design but also fit with each other. Another group member advised me on how the dimensions of the teeth on the sprocket worked with the chain links.
