The Data2Action framework is based on a many of experiences, yet is was influenced by the experiences:
- We found that the traditional approaches to innovation for smart services were unsatisfactory.
- Many Smart Services were based on a manufacturer’s view of the world rather than from the perspective of the asset owner/operator.
- Smart Services should integrate the equipment, the processes and the people however most digital innovation seamed to focus on simple apps.
So we set out to understand how to better translate data into action in a complex industrial environment. To do this we considered many different inputs, including:
- Operational excellent/lean thinking
- Service Design Thinking and Design Thinking
- Information Visualization
- Service Innovation
- Ecosystem Innovation
- Customer Value proposition design
- Business Model design
- Wicked Problem theory
We mashed all of these different approaches together and tested them in real industrial projects, to ensure the framework wide applicability and simplicity.
We incrementally improved our innovation process and slowly and carefully simplified it defining 4 fundamental steps:
