Write things down!
dates of events and procedures
names of people, procedures, and medications
reasoning for why specific decisions were made
Keep everything in one place – I made a binder for any papers and had a notebook for my notes.
Prepare questions – I would do this before rounds every day at the hospital and before appointments while out of the hospital because I would never be able to think of all my questions live during the conversations.
Track your own medicines at all times – between the multiple teams in the hospital and the pharmacy, and given how often medicine types/dosages/frequencies change, there often end up being discrepancies and those administering the medicines to you may not always have the latest information.
Be vigilant – people make mistakes so double check on things that are important to you (for example, I have a food allergy and the kitchen repeatedly sent me the wrong foods).
