In the words of the great Charlie Parker, "Music is your own experience, thoughts, wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. They teach you there's a boundary line to music. But, man, there's no boundary line to art". Music is more than the notes on the page. It is about the human experience. The raw emotion that derives from it. The connections one makes with other musicians.
My job as a music educator is to foster a safe, inclusive learning environment that develops successful musicians and artistic growth through learning in performance ensembles, music theory, and music history. I believe that every student, regardless of identity or socioeconomic background, deserves a well-rounded, enriching learning experience in the music classroom.
As a performer, composer, and conductor, I serve the music. I ensure that any performance or any composition serves music at its full value. Through fundamentals, constant development of my skills, and learning through all branches of music, I choose to develop my craft on the deepest level I can.
As an educator, my mission is always to serve the students. An educator must constantly be developing, receiving feedback, observing different ways of teaching, and changing the classroom to cater to the students in the present day. My job will be to teach students of various identities and backgrounds all aspects of music to develop well-rounded, thoughtful musicians. Through those fundamentals of music, I hope to inspire students and provide for the young minds of the future.
