I am Daniel Montoya Herrera, a PhD candidate in economics at the University of Montpellier (CEE-M).
My ongoing research lies at the intersection of game theory and behavioral/experimental economics, with a focus on prosocial behavior in competitive and adverse environments.
I work on group contests, inequality aversion, and social preferences, combining game-theoretic modeling with laboratory and survey-based evidence.
More broadly, I study how incentives and moral motives shape cooperation, conflict, and collective outcomes.
Native to the land of arepas—yes, they are Colombian; don't let Venezuelans convince you otherwise! —I moved to France in 2014 and began my university studies in the warm and welcoming South of France. I have lived in three different cities: Perpignan, Toulouse, and Montpellier. Eleven years later, I am still living in this lovely region.
During this time, I completed a bachelor's in economics from the University of Montpellier as well as a bachelor's in sociology from the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès (both obtained in 2019). I then pursued my master's degree in behavioral economics in the Faculty of Economics at Montpellier, which I obtained in 2021. Shortly after, I won a scholarship to prepare a doctorate in economics at the Center of Environmental Economics of Montpellier.
Closing up into the end of this marvelous four-year-long adventure, and some great years in Montpellier, I am now looking for new opportunities to pursue my research activities in academia.
