My university service reflects a deep commitment to institutional governance, student development, and academic integrity. I have consistently taken on leadership roles in faculty hiring and curriculum governance, helping to shape both departmental and university-wide academic priorities. My service also emphasizes equity and student empowerment—whether through advising student organizations like GAPAS or moderating public-facing events. Importantly, my university service also embodies Xavier's commitment to a humane and just society by working on committees that help to define Xavier's role in the community and Xavier's use of emerging technology.
In all of this work, I strive to foster collaboration, expand opportunities for student engagement, and strengthen Xavier’s academic mission across disciplines.

Much of my university service has focused on shaping institutional values that align with Xavier’s mission to promote a more just and humane society.
In 2021, I was elected to the University Hearing Committee—an interdisciplinary body tasked with reviewing serious violations of student conduct that may impact an individual’s standing within the Xavier community. In this role, I work alongside faculty, staff, and student representatives to hear cases and help determine appropriate responses to breaches of university policy. This elected position has deepened my understanding of campus-wide concerns around justice, safety, and moral responsibility. It also reflects my broader commitment to ensuring that institutional decisions are made transparently, fairly, and with compassion for all parties involved.
In that same spirit, I serve on the planning committee for the Center for Equity, Justice, and the Human Spirit, where I have contributed to the foundational vision for a university-wide hub dedicated to social transformation. Drawing on my background in criminal justice and political theory, I helped develop proposals for interdisciplinary programming that would confront mass incarceration, foster civic engagement, and encourage public dialogue around race, punishment, and systemic inequality. These included speaker series, artistic activism, voter registration drives, and cross-disciplinary conversations that brought together faculty, students, and community partners.
More recently, I have done service that considers how technology enhances our humane and just pedagogy. I joined Xavier’s Committee for Developing AI Policy, where I worked with colleagues to develop Xavier's Statement on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in an Academic Setting. Here I advocated for best practices that uphold academic freedom, ensure data protection, and promote equitable access to emerging technologies. As AI becomes increasingly embedded in higher education, I see this work as critical to preserving the dignity, autonomy, and intellectual freedom of our students and faculty. Additionally, I have done training with Simple Syllabus and co-lead drop in sessions to help faculty use new technology to facilitate more equitable learning. Across each of these roles, I remain committed to cultivating a university community grounded in human flourishing, democratic engagement, and a shared pursuit of justice.
Faculty hiring has been a central focus of my university service. Since 2021, I have served on four search committees across Political Science and Sociology. These committees have resulted in several successful hires, including Dr. Preya Bhattacharya (2023–2024), Dr. Stephanie Baran (2024–2025), and most recently, Dr. Hannah Baron (2025–2026), who brings expertise in minority politics and quantitative methods. My experience as a committee member led to my appointment as chair of the Political Science Department’s search committee in 2024–2025, where I oversaw a competitive international search process from start to finish.
Throughout my participation in these hiring efforts, I have consistently advocated for candidates who demonstrate disciplinary excellence, a strong commitment to HBCU education, and the potential to contribute meaningfully to Xavier’s mission of preparing students to be leaders in their communities. I view search committee service not only as essential to departmental development but also as a vital opportunity to shape the intellectual and pedagogical direction of the university.
I have played an active role in assessing and shaping Xavier’s curriculum at both the departmental and college levels.
Since 2021, I have served as the Assessment Coordinator for the Political Science Department, where I oversee our annual programmatic review. This process involves collecting and evaluating student artifacts across a range of courses to assess the department’s performance in five key areas: critical thinking (through hypothesis testing and persuasive writing), theoretical research development, civic leadership, and institutional analysis. Based on this data, I generate formal reports and offer recommendations for pedagogical and curricular improvement.
At the college level, I was elected in 2024 to the Core Governance Council and currently serve as Chair of the Human Behavior area. In this capacity, I review and approve new course proposals, participate in shaping core curriculum standards, and help ensure that the general education program remains rigorous, inclusive, and reflective of student needs and societal shifts.
Supporting student academic development beyond the classroom has been a sustained priority in my service. I am the founding faculty advisor for GAPAS (Government and Politics Association and Society), a student organization that encourages experiential and interdisciplinary engagement with law, politics, and society. Since 2021, I have worked with students to host model congresses, community service events, artistic activism workshops, and structured discussions on contemporary political issues. The group has also developed voter information campaigns and organized off-campus learning experiences. This work supports student intellectual life across majors, especially for those interested in civic engagement and public service careers.
I also contribute to broader student enrichment events such as the annual Festival of Scholars. In April 2024, I moderated an alumni panel where Xavier graduates shared insights about graduate and professional school pathways, helping current students imagine futures grounded in both academic inquiry and social impact
