The Stephen C. O'Connell Center at the University of Florida is a multipurpose arena that hosts various events such as NCAA Division One Sports, concerts, trade shows, commencement ceremonies, and so much more. I had the pleasure of serving as a Business Marketing Intern for the center in what was an exhilarating 6 months.
The best part of event marketing is that you get to be around a buzzing atmosphere; one that never seems to rest, even when the halls are quiet and the last patron has long since said farewell.
The main objective I had at the start was to become more familiar with different editing tools like the Adobe creative suite. However, over the course of my internship, I adopted a new objective: To find other creative and culturally relevant ways to keep the center in touch with its patrons. More on that to follow...
The Crate challenge was a trend on social media, and who better to hop on it than the President of the University himself.

Squid game is a Netflix show that amused so many around the world. Imagine having to actually carve this out in a challenge. Yikes.

This was a strategic proposal midway through my time at the center to target our patrons in a different way. The objective was to utilize some of the center's videography resources and tools, as well as an available marketing budget to increase engagement and content creation on YouTube, which is so rarely used by the center.
This project would create a faux news channel/editorial platform that will serve as a cohesive, structured channel output for creating content. It will be titled "In-The-Dome" because it will only relate to matters inside the building (although the building's activities span beyond).
The target is to show more of our talented staff and the incredible work they do in an entertaining way, providing an insider into how we create the tremendous, electric atmosphere that patrons come to enjoy. It could also serve as a recruitment campaign to attract more workers, as the center has equally been affected by the labor shortage facing the country. The project is awaiting final confirmation but should commence in February 2022. More updates to follow.
