Explicit Dynamics
In this side project the goal was to explore the possibilities of simulating a hydraulic damping system. The critical points of the simulation setup were the following:
Accurate pisplay of a nearly incompressible fluid in a FE instead of a FV environment.
Achieve the correct Lagrange-Euler connection between the solid and liquid materials.
Reach the correct velocity and pressure profile of the oil.
The goal of this study is to observe the splashing fluid and the deceleration of the moving cannonball after they make contact.
The velocity of the cast iron ball was 200 m/s, which corresponds to the performance of early industrial cannons.
