Title: Economic regulation and efficiency of electricity systems

I read this thesis on October 2020. Four empirical studies explore in the grid-efficiencies and grid-related costs linked with renewables: electricity losses, grid-congestion costs and grid-investments. This represents a relevant contribution to the economic literature, as there are fewer empirical studies about these topics at a country size and using actual datasets. Moreover, results provide value insights to policymakers and regulators in the definition of energy transition policies. All the four papers are published in top Energy Economic journals (Q1). The Chapter “Analyzing electricity flows and congestions: looking at locational patterns” (Energy Policy, 2021) won the Jose Manuel Blecua prize, which is awarded for the best article published in a prominent academic journal in the field of humanities and social sciences at the University of Barcelona (2021).
