Today, not many people came because it's the school holidays, so six people played some friendly games together.
Thanks to Kobe for helping Emma prepare for tomorrow's tournament and carefully selecting some puzzles to assist Muchen.
For Girls in tomorrow's tournament, please bear in mind not to compare yourself to others; you don't know how much time they've spent on chess, their family background, or their training intensity. The most important thing is what you've learned in the games.
It actually applies to everyone. Not "win or lose" but "win or learn".
Also, thanks to Jin for taking time out of his busy schedule to help the boys improve their chess skills.
Everyone still had a beautiful afternoon. Hope you all enjoy your holidays and see you in two weeks. A reminder will be sent out when the date is closer.
Today, we had 13 people come and participate in 40 games within two hours, making it a very successful meeting.
Tommy extended his undefeated streak from the previous meetings on 12/8/2023, which included a win against the strong opponent, Bao. On the other hand, Bao managed to secure a win against one of our coaches, Jin. Well done to these two rising stars. I hope you continue to enjoy competing at the club and look forward to seeing your outstanding performances in future State Junior competitions.
I especially appreciate Tommy for his patience in playing chess with other kids while also providing improvement suggestions. Obviously, Jin's role model has inspired young people to encourage and look after the less experienced kids. This is the essence of our club's spirit.
In my understanding, chess is not a kind of game where you can achieve perpetual victory by hiding secret tricks. Each chess game played by Magnus is publicly available, yet Magnus is still nearly unbeatable. Therefore, the key to improving in chess lies not in knowing a few tricks that others don't but in how to analyse the situation and apply the right strategies at the right time and position. All this knowledge comes from practice with any available opportunities.
Welcome to the new friend, Savain, brought by Joshua. Savain was clearly enjoying the relaxed competitive atmosphere here and was seamlessly integrated. Additionally, the girls continue to demonstrate their knowledge and poise by helping take care of the younger kids. I particularly enjoy seeing everyone find joy in playing, regardless of the outcome. All the kids are very well-behaved and self-disciplined, and I can feel many moments are no different from a formal chess tournament setting. Everyone is quietly and seriously contemplating their moves, displaying a masterful style.
Also, a big thank you to the parents of Kennedy’s family and Joshua’s family for helping with setting up and packing up, and to Jin for his consistent support.
See you next time, which is 23rd of September. A reminder will be sent out when the date is closer.
We had five boys and five girls turning up, and I’m sure every kid had some fun.
Tommy won all five games and was very kind to give some suggestions to other young kids.
Oliver won 5 out of 7, only lost to Tommy and Jin. Well done, Oliver and also excellent behaviour.
Delightful Priya and Patra had some good games with tough players and kept a cheerful interaction with Muchen. Thanks, Priya and Patra.
And also much appreciate Emma and Amy for their patience in playing games with young kids, and well done to Sophie’s passion for learning and practising.
Rexel came in for the second half games and played with two toughest players, Jin and Tommy, and didn’t give them an easy win. Good job! Hope you also enjoyed the chaos in the club.
A big thank-you goes to Jin for his help, especially before and after the games — obviously, you know more about setting up and packing up details than me.
Hope this snapshot will give Alan peace of mind and have a safe trip.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and see some of you in tomorrow’s tournament; otherwise, see you on 9th September. I will send out the reminder when the date gets closer.
