We should limit screen time. In this report I will talk about the recommended screen time, the effects of screen time, ways to reduce the harm of screen time, how screen time affects your sleep and some of the resources that you can use to reduce your screen time and your children's screen time.the best way that i have found to limit screen time is to set time limits. This is easy and has many ways to set time limits on your phone. You can also use a cooking timer to make it less accessible from where you are sitting instead of pressing dismiss or sleep on the timer on your phone.
In this paragraph I will talk about the recommended screen time and why.There is no set time for adults but there still is an unhealthy amount of time. This is around the two hour mark, the same amount as children. Scientists have found that when you spend more than six hours of screen time you are more likely to get depression and those who spend 30 minutes or less are more likely to have an improved well-being.
In this paragraph I will talk about the effect screen time has on your eyes. Early research using animal models show that blue light exposure of more than 2 hours can damage your eye. The part of the eye is called the retina (a layer of nerve cells) which will cause some long term damage like eye disease and even give you a higher chance of some cancers. It can also cause short term damage like eye strain, sleep issues and mood disorders.
In this paragraph I will talk about the ways to reduce the harm towards your eyes. You can reduce the damage of the blue light that comes from most screens by adding a blue light filter to your device. You can also buy glasses that filter out the blue light which could be a cheaper option if you have more than one device that you use at a time or you regularly switch devices. This reduces most of the effect of blue light like eye strain and could help you sleep better.
In this paragraph I will talk about how screen time affects your sleep. Humans have a sleep-wake cycle that follows a rhythm. When it is bright outside the mind becomes more awake and alert. When it becomes darker the human body produces melatonin. The blue light that comes from the device disrupts this rhythm by tricking the body into thinking that it is still day, since the body thinks it is still day it doesn’t produce as much melatonin even though it could be night time.
In this paragraph I will talk about the resources in place for parents to reduce their children's screen time. Some of the things parents can do to limit the use of screen time is put restrictions in place like no devices in the kitchen, no devices in the living room and only a set time allowed on the device. There are also settings in most devices that allow you to limit the time allowed on a device.
In this paragraph I will talk about what is in place to reduce your own screen time. To get away from your devices try spending more time in your hobbies or coming up with some. When looking for a hobby try thinking of what you like to do apart from spending time on your device. Social media can help with this because it goes on what you like. This might be hunting, walking, swimming or biking.
In this paragraph I will talk about what TBC is doing to reduce screen time. In tauranga boys college they are doing next to nothing to reduce screen time or the effects of blue light. If you want a blue light filter you have to get it. The only thing they are doing is limiting the usage of phones in class time.
In conclusion, We should limit screen time because of the damage that is caused by blue light. There are multiple ways of limiting screen time. To cecap i have talked about what is the max screen time and why, how does screen time affect your eyes, is there a way to reduce any harm towards your eyes, does screen time affect the way you sleep what resources are in place to for parents to reduce children screen time, what resources are in place to reduce their own screen time and are TBC doing anything about screen time
