inquiry #1
intro
In 1952 my family emigrated from Veendam, Netherlands to New Zealand. They were part of a huge wave of migration from Veendam, Netherlands to New Zealand. They left Veendam, Netherlands because of World War II. My ancestors chose New Zealand because of the many opportunities that it offered. This inquiry looks at the push and pull factors that influenced my ancestors and many others to leave their homeland and move to the small island nation at the bottom of the South Pacific.
Push factor 1: Crime Rate
The crime rate in the Netherlands is just under 5,000 compared to NZ there is only one recorded crime in 1952 and that was a murder. The safety level will drop and that means that people wouldn’t want to live in that place because of the risk of a crime being committed around them such as being robbed or murdered.
Push factor 2: Large Population and less resources.
The population of Veendam, Netherlands at the time of 1952 was 10,297,985 and New zealand only had just reached two million. There were far more opportunities in NZ then the Netherlands Like more jobs available, cities less crowded and more space for housing.
Pull factor 1:Better Living conditions
The living condition will be less crowded in NZ due to less people. There will also be less crime rate. And more living space for people to build homes compared to the Netherlands which will have a higher crime rate there for the safety level will drop and so will the living conditions.
Pull factor 2: Employment
two million was the number that NZ just went over at the time of 1952. The opportunities will greatly increase. There will be a number of jobs greatly larger than the ones in the Netherlands. Space is limitless so to say. And the amount of space available now is still quite high and we have 4.8 million people imadgen all the space you could get with 2.8 million less people. With all that space available the housing level will be relatively low. A small population means more opportunities for just about anything you can think of.
Conclusion:
I have talked about the crime rate being so high in the Netherlands, larger population means less resources and worse living conditions. Employment would be rearer. Which my great gandad lammert plagge (len) had to look into before he immigrated to New Zealand. My two pull factors are the crime rate and larger population and less resources. My two pull factors are better living conditions and employment.
