I believe the purpose of education should be raising the next generation after me because the students will be the next group to make a change in this world. It is my responsibility to be able to hand over my knowledge to these children to show them there is greatness stored inside of each one of them. My students will be able to flourish inside my classroom because finding who they are is an important way to grow. To demonstrate my purpose in education, I will transfer my disciplines by empowering students to be able to embrace their cultural differences inside my classroom. They will embrace their differences by allowing them to do projects about their culture and explain how they can see their culture shine from a historical standpoint. A part of lifting the next generation is allowing students to be free within my classroom to share the goals they would want to achieve in this lifetime with no judgment or shame. To be able to incorporate this plan into my students I would like to have each one of them be able to display their goals on the bulletin board for a year. This will help students be able to look at their goals every day when walking in, and also be able to see how their peers want to achieve in this world too. It is a way to break down the four walls in a classroom and be able to be themselves because they will know I have no judgment in my heart. Before entering the field of education, I was passionate about talking to children about how they are valuable and how their future is bright. Raising the next generation after me will leave an impact because it creates a cycle of students wanting better for the next generation after them. It is a way to have children care for those after them because the students are everyone’s future.
To be able to interact with my students I want to set up my classrooms with desks in groups because collaboration is the key to being able to grow from each other. As the students will be able to learn from me, they will learn even more from their peers. I want the students to never have to assign seating but the chance to be able to sit with a new person every other week. This will be able to give every child an opportunity to hear different ideas or stories to bounce off of each other and be able to hear perspectives on certain events that happened throughout history. Hearing other students' perspectives will be able to help a person be able to connect to what is happening in history and relate it to who they are. It is a way to discuss other cultures with each other because students need to learn about diversity. By setting up my classroom, the students could expect me to have a joyful heart with everything I have to offer to them because I want each student to be able to achieve and walk away knowing at least ten new facts in my classroom they will remember forever. I will be willing to meet before school, during my lunch hour, and after school to make sure they can be the most successful students. For students to be able to grow within my class, it will reflect upon me too, because I will be growing with them. This is their education, and I am just along for the ride to share as much as I can. I plan to walk alongside my students by not just forgetting them after they are done taking my class for a year. To check up on them if they need any other assistants with their class and I can help or connect them to someone who can. Having the students know they have someone to lean on when things get hard will connect a trust factor to be able to learn more and speak in class. They are eager to have someone to listen to them with no judgment. For me, I am ready to dive into conversations with each one of them to develop as a teacher, because listening is key to teaching. My plan to develop further as a teacher is to explore different classes and talk to teachers about their profession outside of my own. This can help me to connect with students who never step foot in my classroom and will be able to engage with different students. I want to expand my education by getting my master’s degree in Educational Administration to be able to oversee all students. Students will have the biggest impact on the world, but it is up to me to help students be able to make that change.
Within my classroom, I expect students' ability to give me respect and honesty to help me be able to give them the best learning atmosphere. Being respectful when I am teaching will include them not talking when I am talking and being willing to listen by having their eyes on me. It will help the class go by faster and let them be able to take in much of the lesson I am teaching. Being honest with me will help me to build a relationship with them and for them to tell me how a lesson could be more effective for their learning. With those two rules inside my classroom, I will remind them daily after my bell ringer, because it will be in place as routine as well. This will help students be able to know my expectations for them because in my classroom we will work as a team to better each other every day and reminders are helpful. By students walking away with those two expectations I want them to have respect for me, but for their peers as well. Sitting in their groups, they will collaborate with people who come from different backgrounds and homes to take responsibility to respect what the student has to offer to the conversation. Honesty will help students to respond to each other, and to thrive together, then apart because we need each other to grow. As each student is unique in their way, the best way to grow is to have others around to be able to keep going. By entering a history classroom, these expectations will demonstrate how students will view history and be respectful of what has happened. I want my students to walk away with an appreciation of learning other students’ diverse points of view because history is not a debate, but a conversation on how our generation can be better.
