My journey into music began in 4th grade when I desprately wanted to play violin, but my school didn't have an orchestra. I tried the trumpet and was able to get a sound out of it immediately, and my fate was sealed.
I played trumpet from then on but switched to sousaphone my third year in college because the tuba line was having more fun!
I have a daughter who is a percussionist, pianist, and vocalist in District 45, and a son who recently graduated Jackson and is playing tuba for Willowbrook.
This is my fourth year in the Music Boosters, and I am looking forward to another successful year for the organization!

Mike's love for sharing and experiencing music grew from the seed that is 4th-grade band.
While his first love will always be the trumpet, it was a decision to switch out of a 14-piece trumpet section his freshman year that began his pursuit of beautiful harmony with and through the euphonium, which holds his musical heart still today. In high school, Mike also participated in choir and musicals. He is also still famously used as a cautionary tale for high school class trips ever since the rest of the 78-member choir/band group stranded him and a chaperone in Venice, Italy, leaving them to find their way back to their hotel on their own.
Business college and subsequent career paths didn't allow many opportunities to pursue playing in bands; but for a couple years, Mike and his trumpet would accompany local church choirs and hymns when able.
After about 30 years of not playing, Mike is shaking the rust off his chops and finding his way back into playing his euphonium and singing with the choir during church worship services.
Today, through the work of Music Boosters, Mike finds joy in uplifting the promise music holds to enrich the lives and minds of those students who seek to make, share, and be music.
