Here’s a Week 3 recap of the 2024 NFL season, highlighting key games, breakout performances, and surprising developments across the league!
The San Francisco 49ers hosted the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football and showcased why they’re considered one of the league’s top teams. Quarterback Brock Purdy was sharp, connecting with Deebo Samuel and George Kittle, while Christian McCaffrey had another explosive game on the ground. The Giants struggled to gain any offensive traction, with their offensive line unable to handle the 49ers’ relentless pass rush, leading to a dominant win for San Francisco.
The Miami Dolphins put on an offensive clinic against the Denver Broncos, scoring a record-breaking 70 points without even needing star wideout Jaylen Waddle, who was out with an injury. Tua Tagovailoa threw for over 300 yards and four touchdowns, while rookie running back De’Von Achane had a breakout game, racking up 200 rushing yards and multiple scores. The Broncos’ defense was completely overwhelmed, and there are serious questions about Denver's ability to compete in the AFC West.
The Green Bay Packers mounted an incredible comeback against the New Orleans Saints, who led 17-0 heading into the fourth quarter. Quarterback Jordan Love led a remarkable charge, finishing the game with over 250 yards passing and scoring the game-winning touchdown with a short scramble. Saints kicker Blake Grupe missed a crucial field goal that could have given the Saints the lead, sealing the win for Green Bay and giving Love a signature comeback moment early in his career.
Kansas City faced off against the struggling Chicago Bears, and the Chiefs’ offense was in peak form, with Patrick Mahomes throwing for multiple touchdowns. Travis Kelce’s chemistry with Mahomes was evident, and their connection fueled much of Kansas City’s offensive success. The Bears continued to struggle on both sides of the ball, and with quarterback Justin Fields struggling to find his rhythm, Chicago now faces growing frustration and mounting questions about their future direction.
In one of the week’s biggest upsets, the Arizona Cardinals stunned the Dallas Cowboys. Despite missing star QB Kyler Murray, the Cardinals capitalized on mistakes made by the Cowboys' offense and controlled the line of scrimmage, with running back James Conner playing a pivotal role in Arizona’s victory. The Cowboys’ offensive line struggled to protect Dak Prescott, who threw a costly interception late in the game.
On Monday Night Football, the Philadelphia Eagles traveled to Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers. Jalen Hurts led an efficient offense, supported by strong performances from both A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith. Philadelphia’s defense kept the pressure on Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield, leading to a solid Eagles win that kept their undefeated streak alive.
De’Von Achane, RB, Dolphins: A breakout game with 200 yards and two touchdowns, showing the Dolphins’ backfield depth.
Jordan Love, QB, Packers: Led a comeback win with a poised fourth-quarter performance.
Brock Purdy, QB, 49ers: Efficient and consistent, keeping San Francisco’s offense moving against a tough Giants defense.
Christian McCaffrey, RB, 49ers: Continued to be a powerhouse on the ground and a reliable receiver.
Can the Dolphins’ offense sustain this pace? Tua, Tyreek Hill, and Achane are leading an offense that looks unstoppable, but can they keep this up against stronger defenses?
Bears’ Struggles: Chicago’s issues on both sides of the ball are raising questions about Justin Fields’ future with the team.
Cowboys Bounce Back? After a stunning loss to the Cardinals, the Cowboys need to address offensive line issues to protect Dak Prescott better.
With some teams showing unexpected strength and others facing early-season adversity, Week 3 provided fans with excitement, big plays, and plenty to look forward to as the season continues!
