Kendo is a traditional Japanese martial art with three key characteristics. The first is its strong emphasis on combat. It enhances eyesight, footwork, adaptability, and other skills. However, the use of complete protective gear during training makes it a safer sport compared to other combat sports. Secondly, it has become sport oriented. Although it simulates real-life sword fighting, the rules and equipment limitations make it more of a sport. Finally, Kendo pursues the unity of mind, sword, and body. It embodies the wisdom of Eastern philosophy, emphasizing this unity by using stillness to overcome movement and maintaining steadiness amidst change. Kendo places a greater emphasis on spiritual strength, which trains individuals to remain calm and composed in crisis situations. The goal of the Chung Yuan Kendo Club is to learn Kendo knowledge, cultivate character, and promote physical fitness through the practice of Kendo.
