We chose social justice as our action because cyberbullying can change the way people look at the world. It could hurt other's feelings because of the way trust issues develop and the way they are becoming distant from their loved ones and friends. They could get bullied online which might lead to mental health issues and overthinking.
We started a small bazaar in front of the cafeteria of our school for our action. We had many students and even a few teachers buying from our bazaar. We didn't only sell to PYP students, but we also sold goods to a few DP and MYP students that were around. We will donate to three organizations:
Teman 1 Frekuensi, who empowers the women in the Integrated Healthcare Center;
Octotouch, ____ ; and
Sudah Dong, an anti-bullying community committed to reducing bullying cases in Indonesia, especially in schools and cyberspace.
For our bazaar, we raised over Rp. 7 million. We are going to donate the money to Teman 1 Frekuensi, Octotouch, and Sudah Dong. We will donate Rp. 1.5 million to Octotouch, Rp. 2.2 million to Teman 1 Frekuensi and Rp. 1 million to Sudah Dong.
We also started an event called 'Odd Socks Day'. This event was held on May 16, 2023. This event was suggested by Ms. Richel at our mentoring session. 'Odd Socks Day' is used to promote anti-bullying by embracing our differences because we're all unique!
Our last action was having a guest session with three people from an organization called 'Octotouch'. Octotouch is an organization that specializes in mental health and special needs children. They set up seminars for parents, children, and maybe the elderly if they need to discuss something like safe parenting. They also set up counseling sessions so you can open up more and they can help you with the issue. The three people were Ms. Angelia, Ms. Naomi, and Ms. Novrin. This session was made for Grades 4 and 5. They talked about empathy, compassion, and an idea called the buddy bench. When Ms. Iyenk worked in a school, a lot of students got bullied because they don't have friends. A student suggested making a buddy bench in the school's backyard. Any two or more people who sit there have to talk and get along with each other. The buddy bench is really helpful because after it was made, everyone in the school seemed much happier.
