If you have any questions please feel free to email me at mthompson@isd95.org or call me at the school (218) 644-3737 ext. 3155.
Supplies for ALL classes:
pens and pencils
notebook
folder
charged chromebook
not required but nice to have: highlighter and whiteout
General Classroom Expectations for ALL classes:
BE PREPARED
Come with a charged chromebook
We will be using it daily
An uncharged Chromebook is a great way to fall behind very quickly
Have all class materials with you and ready at the start of class
chromebook, notebook, pen/pencil, any assignments, etc.
BE RESPECTFUL/DO NOT BE A DISTRACTION
to each other, me, and yourself
don’t distract others
BE ENGAGED
This is the easiest way to learn and succeed
Ask questions, share ideas, and participate in discussions
BE POSITIVE
This will make the year go so much better for everyone, including you
Complaining doesn't help anybody
General Classroom Procedures for ALL classes:
Due Dates and Late Work
Each assignment is due 2 school days after it is assigned
Unless otherwise stated by me, research projects for example have much longer time frames
10% is deducted from the assignment's score for every school day it is late, this caps off at 50% deduction.
Example: A writing assignment is assigned on Thursday. So it is due on the following Monday (2 school days apart). But let's say it is not turned in until the following Thursday. 30% is deducted from the assignment as it is 3 days late.
Schedules, notes, and copies of assignments will be posted here on the website, on Schoology, and on the class's daily schedule.
If your child misses a day of school, check the daily schedule to see what we did that day and how they can make it up.
All assignments and tests can be corrected/improved once and turned back in for improved learning and a better score.
In life there really are few things that we only get one chance at, and so I believe that one-and-done assignments are not as valuable as learning from our mistakes and doing our best to fix them.
Half points are given for corrections made to an assignment or test.
Example: Jane lost 20% on an assignment due to rushing through and not answering some questions. If she answers all of those questions correctly and turns it in again, she will receive 10% back on your score.
This helps prevent students from taking advantage of the system too much. Effort and attention are still needed if you want to get an A in my classes.
For up-to-date grades check Powerschool
Schoology will be used for some assignments but not all, so Powerschool will have accurate grades and scores
Cell phones are NOT allowed during class
students are to leave them in their locker or place them in my cell phone bin at the start of class
there will be times that students can get their phones before class ends (freetime, etc)
Extra Credit Opportunities
There are opportunities for extra work worth extra points in each of my classes.
They are posted on their class pages here on the website as well as on the daily schedule
Each assignment has slightly different criteria so read the instructions carefully, but most are some sort of an independent research project.
