Frequently Asked Questions
Your first step is to email or call me to schedule a first appointment. For most situations when I am working with children, I prefer to meet with the parents alone for the first session to gather information so I can focus on your child the next time you come into the office.
I will ask you to complete the paperwork I will send you electronically through the portal a week before your first appointment.
What age children do you work with?
I focus my practice on school age children through adulthood (8-adulthood)
Do you allow parents to participate in counseling sessions?
Yes, absolutely! Parents are a fundamental part of their child’s therapy. In most situations, I prefer parents to remain in the session when I am working with their child.
Adolescents often are seeking more autonomy from their parents. I prefer parents to be a part of the beginning and the end of the session to share updates and progress and review the skills I am asking their child to practice for the next session. In order for treatment to be successful, you and your child will need to practice the treatment strategies in the time between the sessions.
Adolescents over the age of eighteen are usually not seen with their parents unless they would prefer to have them present.
Yes, presently I accept CDPHP and MVP.
What is your treatment approach?
I primarily use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is the most effective therapy treatment for anxiety disorders and for several other mental health conditions. CBT is based on the idea that how we think and act affect how we feel. By changing our thinking patterns and our behaviors, we can change our emotions. This treatment is goal directed and incremental and has clear outcomes for therapy. I also use Mindfulness, play therapy, DBT and ACT. The treatment approaches used are based on your child’s age, interests and the treatment needs of you or your child.
