The song “The Truthful Tree” was composed by Bruce Gaston as part of a children’s musical production for the Children’s Village School in Kanchanaburi Province (1993 and 2017). This presentation reinterprets the song through a newly arranged harmonic setting in the Orff style. The arrangement was created by Thawin Laithong, a doctoral student in Music Education at the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with undergraduate and master’s students who also participated in designing the performance. The production further serves as a tribute to Bruce Gaston’s work, acknowledging his significant role as a pioneer in introducing the Orff approach to music education for children in Thailand.

The arrangement is grounded in the principle of Elemental Music, a core foundation of the Orff Schulwerk approach. The newly developed harmonization is shaped to reflect the context of a music classroom and is performed on Orff xylophones, while performers are encouraged to create their own movement responses freely. As a result, the overall performance embodies an atmosphere of exploration, experimentation, and collaborative creativity within the music learning process, aligning with the Orff philosophy that views music as a fundamental life experience integrating sound, rhythm, movement, and creativity into a unified whole.

ฉันจะปลูกต้นไม้

บทเพลง “ฉันจะปลูกต้นไม้” ประพันธ์โดยอาจารย์บรูซ แกสตัน เพื่อใช้ประกอบละครเพลงสำหรับเด็กของโรงเรียนหมู่บ้านเด็ก จังหวัดกาญจนบุรี (พ.ศ. 2536 และ 2560) การนำเสนอครั้งนี้จึงเป็นการหยิบบทเพลงกลับมาตีความใหม่ ผ่านการเรียบเรียงเสียงประสานในรูปแบบดนตรีออร์ฟ โดยนายธาวิน ไล้ทองนิสิตปริญญาเอก สาขาวิชาดนตรีศึกษา คณะครุศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ร่วมกับนิสิตระดับปริญญาตรีและปริญญาโทซึ่งมีส่วนร่วมในการออกแบบการแสดง ทั้งนี้ การจัดแสดงยังมีนัยของการรำลึกและแสดงความเคารพต่อผลงานของอาจารย์บรูซ ผู้มีบทบาทสำคัญในการบุกเบิกการนำแนวคิดออร์ฟมาใช้ในการสอนดนตรีสำหรับเด็กในประเทศไทย

การเรียบเรียงเสียงประสานในบทเพลงนี้ตั้งอยู่บนหลักดนตรีเบื้องต้น (Elemental Music) อันเป็นหัวใจของการจัดการเรียนรู้ตามแนวคิดออร์ฟ (Orff Schulwerk) โดยพัฒนาเสียงประสานใหม่ให้สอดคล้องกับบริบทของชั้นเรียนดนตรี และถ่ายทอดผ่านการบรรเลงบนเครื่องดนตรีระนาดออร์ฟ ควบคู่กับการเปิดพื้นที่ให้ผู้แสดงร่วมออกแบบการเคลื่อนไหวประกอบเสียงดนตรีอย่างอิสระ ด้วยเหตุนี้ ภาพรวมของการแสดงจึงสะท้อนบรรยากาศของการทดลอง การสำรวจ และการสร้างสรรค์ร่วมกันในกระบวนการเรียนรู้ทางดนตรี อันสอดคล้องกับเจตนารมณ์ของแนวคิดออร์ฟที่มุ่งให้ดนตรีเป็นประสบการณ์พื้นฐานของชีวิต เชื่อมโยงเสียง จังหวะ การเคลื่อนไหว และความคิดสร้างสรรค์เข้าด้วยกัน
