This keynote proposes an aspirational and practical way of attuning to diversity through our sound worlds. Sound citizenship defined as an encouragement of sound awareness through our ears into our hearts and minds, moves us into an empathetic and developmental view of social and cultural equity, a critical acoustical deep-dive into the role of sounds in everyday communication and interactions, leading to artistic and creative resonances. Sound citizenship also takes on the intercultural space, where the encouragement of deep listening and critical dialogue will enable the creation of more collaborative socio-cultural environments primed towards openness in negotiating difference, leading to a deeper sensing and attunement of one’s own culture as well as that of others.
