Scholar’s Year: Reminder that we are currently accepting applications for our Scholar’s Year program. The Scholar’s Year allows students to take one year away from the regular curriculum to pursue basic science or clinical research. Students pay minimal tuition during this time, yet retain the benefits afforded to full-time students, including student health insurance, financial aid, federal loan forbearance, access to campus facilities and support, and malpractice coverage for approved career exploration.
This year, there are two approved exit points from the curriculum to give students added flexibility: January or June, both occurring after you have completed your LIC year. Up to 3 students will be approved for a Scholar’s Year at each exit point.
Applications for the June exit are due Monday, February 19th by end of day. You must have an identified mentor and project prior to applying, so start planning now! Please note that you should plan to take both your Step 1 and Step 2 exams prior to starting the Scholar's Year. You can find the Scholar’s Year webpage HERE to apply and for more information. If you have questions, please reach out to Dean Elizabeth Gundersen in the Office of Student Life.

COVID Updates
COVID Vaccination: As of July 1, 2023, The University of Colorado School of Medicine has made the decision to remove the COVID-19 vaccine requirement, commensurate with a change in federal regulatory requirements. However, students will be required to comply with individual clinical site requirements. The SOM still strongly recommends vaccination against the COVID-19 virus.
