Week 8
A much interrupted week is upon us.
Tuesday this week has flex time. Wednesday is a very early dismissal for Parent-Teacher Interviews. (12:20 dismissal). Thursday is also Early Dismissal at 2:05. Friday is a Pro-D Day.
The grade 8s are wrapping up their unit on Identity this week and reflecting on their learning, their provocation skills and their goals.
AP 12 Continues with exploring poetry, writing an essay response, and presenting their poems to the class.
The grade 11s try their hand at essay writing this week and use it to reveal their understanding of symbolism in the stories we explored last week.
Make sure you are staying caught up on work, report cards are being generated soon.
NOTE: Parent-Teacher interviews are this week. I am full, so if you did not get an appointment with me but wish to communicate with me, then please send me an email.
What is English?
English is not just the study of spelling and grammar rules – that is the stuff that operates in the background. More importantly, English is the study of thoughts and ideas – a study of the human condition.
So what then is the human condition? It is the condition of, well, being human. Happiness, sadness, heartbreak, betrayal, revenge, triumph, honour, conformity, love and an ocean more of emotions and states of mind are all ideas that we explore in the literature we study. The study of English is really the study of the world, the study of thought, the study of understanding, and the study of our own mind all at once. It may not be easy, but it is important, and very worthwhile.
