CANADA’S BEST

There are 2 snooker players in Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame ...

GEORGE CHENIER - Born in Hull, Quebec in 1907, Chenier held the North American snooker championship for an incredible 22 consecutive years ... from 1948 to 1970. Along the way, Chenier was runner-up in the World Championships in1950, and scored a perfect ‘150’ in the 1963 World Pocket Billiards championships. Although a 1966 stroke affected his game, George recovered well enough to win his final North American championship in 1970, at age 63, and only 7 months before his death. George Chenier was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1971.

CLIFF THORBURN - Cliff was born in Victoria, BC, in 1948. Over his lengthy (and on-going) career, he won numerous prestigious snooker tournaments including the North American Championship (1971); the Canadian Championship (1972 and 1974-1977); the World Championship (1980); World Mixed Championship (1981); World Team Championship (1982); and 3 Masters Championships (1983, 1985 and 1986). Cliff Thorburn was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.

THE BEST EVER?

It’s always fun to argue about the Greatest Of All Time in any sport. Ronnie O’Sullivan is certainly part of snooker’s GOAT discussion. If you’re missing the game and want to see something special, check out The Rocket’s incredible 5 minute, 8 second ‘Perfect Game’! (‘Ronnie O’Sullivan - 147 - 1997 World Championships’ on You Tube.)

AND FINALLY, A LOCAL NOTE - Our new cloths and rails have (finally!) arrived from England and will be installed as soon as Dr. Bonnie allows - hopefully in June.
