What is a Raingutter Regatta?
The Raingutter Regatta is a classic Cub Scout event where Scouts build and race small, wind-powered boats down a standard raingutter filled with water. Using only their lungs to provide the "wind," Scouts blow into the sail to propel their boat to the finish line! It's a fantastic activity that combines creativity, a bit of science, and a whole lot of fun.
How It Works:
The Boat: Each Scout will receive an official BSA Raingutter Regatta kit. This kit contains a balsa wood hull, a mast, a sail, and a rudder.
The Build: Scouts can design and decorate their boat at home with the help of their family. The goal is to be creative and have fun!
The Race: On event day, races are run in heats, two lanes at a time. Scouts blow into their sail (no hands!) to move their boat down the water-filled gutter. The first boat to reach the end wins the heat and advances.
