Cub Scout ranks are based on a Scout’s grade level.
Kindergarten — Lions
1st Grade — Tigers
2nd Grade — Wolves
3rd Grade — Bears
4th Grade — Webelos
5th Grade — Arrow of Light (AOL)
Both boys and girls are welcome to join Cub Scouts at any rank level.
Each rank has a set of achievements, called Required Adventures, that Scouts complete in order to advance to the next rank. Every Cub Scout first earns the Bobcat rank, which is a yearly requirement that introduces Scouts to Cub Scout expectations, the Scout Oath, and the Scout Law.
Because recognition and encouragement are so important for young children, the Cub Scout advancement program is designed to be fun, rewarding, and family-centered. As Scouts complete adventures and activities, they earn badges, belt loops, and special patches throughout the year to celebrate their accomplishments and progress. Families also play an important role by working alongside their Scouts on advancement activities.
After completing the Webelos requirements and earning the Arrow of Light rank, Scouts may choose to continue their journey by joining a Scouts BSA troop.
