About
The Summit on Computational Thinking from K-12 Disciplinary Perspectives (CT Summit) is hosted by the Education Development Center (EDC) for National Science Foundation (NSF) STEM+C and ITEST project leaders (NSF DRL #1647018).
The NSF’s purpose in funding this Summit is to: 1) establish and nurture a community of CT thought leaders amongst NSF ITEST and STEM+C project leaders and teacher practitioners; 2) gather and analyze NSF’s body of knowledge and lessons learned around CT, and 3) develop a common framework describing connections between Computational Thinking and various disciplines across K-12 and share it with the national community of stakeholders.
The CT Summit will take place in the Boston area, over two meetings: “Framework Building” will occur on Monday, August 21, 12pm ET, to Wednesday, August, 23, 2017, 3pm ET; “Aligning Assessments” will occur on Tuesday, November 7, 12pm ET, to Thursday, November 9, 2017, 3pm ET.
“Framework Building” will focus on identifying constructs to define and operationalize CT within the various K-12 disciplines represented in ITEST and STEM+C projects, and drafting a framework for integrating CT in different K-12 disciplines.
“Aligning Assessments” will focus on reviewing CT assessment instruments and checking their alignment with the CT framework developed during the first workshop, identifying gaps, and suggesting ideas for additional assessments to support CT learned via disciplines.
By attending the CT Summit, each participant is expected to: 1) commit to championing CT within and outside of the NSF community, 2) actively participate and collaborate with attendees during both meetings, and 3) contribute to subsequent products or publications that result from participation. Specifically, CT Summit participants will be encouraged to collaborate during both workshops to submit relevant articles for an anticipated special issue of a journal dedicated to CT from K-12 disciplinary perspectives, edited by the CT Summit Advisory Committee.
