Google Classroom is a way to help teachers and students transition to online learning because it is organized, user-friendly, and collaborative. Everything is posted online. Google Classroom will allow teachers to communicate with students and will allow students access to classroom content

Completing the NFPA 1001

Message from: C. Reid Vaughan, Director of Regional Services, Alabama Fire College

In these extraordinary times we all are being asked to do things a little different. Responding to emergencies is something the public safety community does every day, so our people are uniquely adapted to this mode of operations. This means that the COVID-19 outbreak will not forfeit your ability to complete the firefighter certification program with your students. Plans have been made for students to accomplish the goals that they have worked so hard to achieve.

Please see the plan below:

1 – Online classrooms and courses will remain available to students and instructors. Instructors can use Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Join Me or other systems to deliver instruction to their students in remote locations. Students can work on assignments and reading without having to leave home.

2 – Job Performance Requirements (JPR) practice can be accomplished when the Governor has lifted restrictions on face to face meetings. School systems are encouraged to reach out to their local fire departments to work together to create a schedule to accomplish the needed skills. Not to worry, if it takes until June to accomplish, students will be allowed to complete their certification.

3 – Alabama Fire College personnel will test and evaluate the JPR portions of the classes once the restrictions have been lifted and normal operations resumed. Let me reiterate that if the process cannot be completed until the summer, we will provide the support for students to complete the process. Please contact your regional coordinator to set up testing dates when the Governor has lifted restrictions.
