About Elizabeth de Moya
I joined the EcoMorph lab with Dr. Sustaita to pursue my interest in avian biology. In the lab, I’m contributing primarily to research on the San Clemente Loggerhead Shrike by developing and setting up automated weighing stations on the Island. I volunteer with animals at the San Diego Humane Society and other local nonprofits. I am also completing a veterinary assistant externship at a local clinic in Spring 2026 to edge toward my goal of a career in veterinary medicine. Elizabeth’s Graduate Research
My research in the EcoMorph lab revolves around the San Clemente Loggerhead Shrike conservation breeding program. By setting up automated weighing systems in the field and analyzing the data, I hope to contribute to the effort to restore this endangered subspecies, as well as the overall ecology of San Clemente Island. I am currently developing a prototype of an automated weighing system that works with existing supplemental feeding stations for shrikes on the island. The ultimate goal is to have several systems in place on the island to monitor the health of newly released juvenile shrikes.
