This event will take place Thursday, October 27 online and will be at 7pm PST. You will be able to acquire 8 points and if you bought a shirt with your membership 2 extra points. Terrarium Event (Friday, May 6th at 7 PM PST)
Love plants and making a difference in children’s lives? Look no further because on Friday, May 6th, we will be holding our highly anticipated fundraiser event where we will be making our very own terrariums! 🪴You can purchase your tickets for this event with the link below and in our Linktree. The ticket comes with all the supplies you will need to create your terrarium: glass bowl, soil, succulents, pebbles, shells 🐚
This event is $25 per ticket and is a 20 point opportunity with the option of having up to two paying guests for an extra 5 points per person. Details on terrarium supply pick-up day will be announced in our upcoming Instagram post and in next week’s newsletter. Zoom details will be sent out to those of you that purchased a ticket closer to the event date!
*REMINDER: This will be the LAST point opportunity for members who want this semester to count towards graduation cords! In other words, you must have 50 points by the end of our terrarium event for Spring 2022 to count towards your cords. Spring into Service Event (Thursday, April 21st from 11-2 PM and Friday, April 22nd from 11-1 PM)
Please join us for CSICC’s hosted event with all of the service clubs on campus and/or on zoom! Our event will be on Friday, April 22nd, via zoom from 11:45 AM - 12:05 PM where we will be creating digital cards for children receiving cleft lip and palate surgeries all around the world. This will be a unique point opportunity for members who want to earn more points. If you attend the entire in-person Spring Into Service at TitanWalk on Thursday, 4/21 plus our portion of the event on Friday via zoom, you will receive 5 points. Ariana is a manager / community developer at Smile Train in New York and will be sharing her role and participation with the organization, Smile Train’s relationship with Students for Smiles, and much more. We encourage you to bring friends and family who are interested in learning more about Smile Train and how it empowers local medical professionals with training, funding, and resources to provide free cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care to children worldwide. Recycling 4 Smiles Community Service Event (Tuesday, April 12th)
On Tuesday, April 12th, we will be holding a community service event called ‘Recycling 4 Smiles’! Sonali, a high schooler and founder of this fundraiser, started the charity Recycling4Smiles to support Smile Train and helped provide free cleft lip and palate surgeries to 66 children. If you want to earn points by supporting this fantastic voluntary organization, tap for the steps!

Spring Apparel Pick-Up (Saturday, April 9th from 11 AM-2 PM)
We are happy to announce that our apparel pick-up day is finally here! 🤩 We appreciate your patience and are excited for you to receive your long-awaited merchandise. For members who ordered t-shirts and/or quarter zip ups for Spring semester only, please come pick up your SFS spring semester merchandise on Saturday, April 9th, from 11am - 2pm.

Self Care Event with Sarah Cooper (Tuesday, March 15th at 7 PM)
Please join us on Tuesday, March 15, at 7 PM PST with SFS advisor, Professor Cooper, and her daughter, Sarah Cooper, for our first speaker event focused on self care. As an influencer and a 2018/19 National All-American Miss, Sarah is a strong advocate for the prioritization of mental health and physical well being. Sarah will be sharing her personal experience with self-care and explaining the importance of self-love. She will guide our members in various activities focused around educating on self-esteem and building confidence. We hope to see you there!

7 Leaves Fundraiser (Tuesday, March 8th from 7 AM-10 PM)

Welcome Back Event (Friday, February 18th at 7 PM)
Join us on Friday, February 18th for our Welcome Back Event with NSSHLA, STANCE, AAC, and SAA as we make a lasagna casserole with our very own Professor Cooper! The casserole can be made as chicken and veggie or veggie alone. (Measurements are approximates) Cooper recommends cooking the casserole in an 11 in. saucepan on the stove but it can also be made in the oven in a casserole dish.
*Optional side: garlic bread (ingredients: sliced bread, butter, and garlic salt)
Note: You don’t need to make the casserole in order to attend! You may also bring your own food to eat with us. This event is about getting to know us and the other COMD students, and we will also be available to answer any questions about SFS, membership, and payment. We hope to see you there!
Discoverfest Spring 2022 (February 9 & 10, 2022)
We will be at Discoverfest on February 9th and 10th from 11-2 PM in the Quad at Table Q-63! The table is located in the main campus in front of the Pollack Library. Our virtual asynchronous holiday card making event is from Monday 12/6 and ends Friday 12/10. If you speak any other languages, it’s encouraged to write your cards in those languages as well like Spanish, Portuguese, and French, since many children affected by cleft come from South America and countries like French Guiana, and the Philippines!

Graduating this Fall 2021? 🎓✨ Our application to apply for cords for graduation is now live and the deadline to submit is a week from today on Wednesday, December 8th. The google form to apply is located in our Linktree under “Applying for Fall Cords”.

Graduation cords are free -- as a dedicated member of Students for Smiles, we’re so thankful for your time and contribution. In order to be eligible, you must make sure that you have been an active member of Students for Smiles either 3/4 of your last semesters at CSUF or your last 2 consecutive semesters. If you haven’t obtained the full 50 points for Fall membership you may still apply, as long as you obtain the points by the end of this semester.
*Reminder: we have 2 more point opportunities this semester, so be on the lookout for those in the coming weeks!

Giving Tuesday Social Media Fundraiser (Tuesday, November 30th-Friday, December 3rd)
Tuesday, November 30th marks the start of Giving Tuesday! From local to global what better way to help children all around the world with cleft lip and palate than encouraging your family and friends to make a generous donation to our cause! 🎁

Paint Night Pickup (November 1, 2020)
On November 1, from 1pm - 3pm, come and pickup your art supplies! The studio will provide each guest with corresponding materials needed to paint for Night 1 and/or Night 2.
If you are unable to pickup during the indicated time, please be sure to call the studio (657) 217-0750 and schedule a more convenient time before Paint Night!
If you were unable to previously receive your t-shirt and/or mask, that will also be available for pickup at that time!

Speaker Event with Dr. Wayne Ozaki (October 15, 2020)
Pediatric Craniofacial Surgeon, Wayne H. Ozaki, will be giving a presentation that covers an array of aspects: Von Lagenbeck Repair, Millard Technique/Rotation Advancement Flap, and the Tennison-Randall Technique. Additionally, crucial ideas such as counseling families throughout the process, as well as other professionals involved will be touched on.To learn more information about these areas, tune in and spread the word to anyone who might be interested!

Digital Discoverfest Fall 2020 (September 2 & 3, 2020)
September 2nd and 3rd is our campus's Digital Discoverfest! On September 2nd at 12PM there will be a Getting Involved Webinar that you can access through TitanLink. Then, join our Executive Board on September 3rd between 11AM-2PM on Zoom where students will have the chance to learn more about the club and sign up for membership. We are so excited to start the new school year and welcome new members into our club! We look forward to advocating with you all throughout this year.

First Speaker Event (March 5, 2020)
We are so excited to have Barbara Moore CCC-SLP back as our first speaker of the semester. She was able to share so much of her knowledge and experience about her journey throughout the field of speech-language pathology as well as her time working on the craniofacial team at CHOC. This event is worth 10 points + 2 points if you wear your SFS t-shirt!
#2 Titan Walk (February 20, 2020)

Panda Express Fundraiser (February 11, 2020)
Our first food fundraiser of the year has arrived! Come out the Panda Express located in the TSU (Titan Student Union) and support our cause. Panda will be donating %15 of proceeds to Smile Train. We brought our cookie fundraiser back this semester! This was our most successful Titan walk fundraiser last semester so we are hoping to see all of you out there either supporting or advocating! This event is worth 5 points if you stop by or an additional 3 points if you volunteer. All proceeds go directly to Smile Train!
CHOLA Valentine's Day Card Drop-Off (January 30, 2019)
Come by Gilman A between 7:30-9:30pm to drop off a card or two that you made for a child in recovery! Please make sure to create a card that is neutral/generic, avoid spiritual references, avoid glue & sparkles, and lastly, please laminate your card! We can't wait to drop off all of your cards at CHLA!
Discover Fest Spring 2020 (January 29 & 30, 2019)
January 29th and 30th is our campus's discover fest! It will be from 2pm- 11pm and we will be located on Titanwalk/Pollack Library at table T-63, where students will have the chance to meet up with clubs/organizations and get to know them. We are so excited to start this Spring semester with current and new members! We look forward to advocating with all throughout this year.

We are collaborating with After's Ice Cream for an on campus fundraiser! No need to show this poster during checkout because After's will be donating a portion of ALL net proceeds. Their catering truck will be located in the KHS court so be sure to stop by!

Paint Night (November 7-8, 2019)
Save the date! We are excited to give you an exclusive, early invite to our Paint Night Fundraiser on Thursday, November 7th and Friday, November 8th from 7-9 p.m. at Anaheim Brewery! Join us for a night of drinks, paint, and fun while making a difference in a child’s life.
This is a friends and family fundraiser so you are welcome and encouraged to invite anyone that would be interested in learning more about Smile Train and supporting our cause! We have divided Paint Night into two nights this year, so members will be able to pick a date that works best for their guest(s). This event is worth 25 points, but if you are to invite one guest, you can receive 5 extra points. If you are to invite two or more guests, you can receive up to 10 extra points!

Second Speaker Event: Hugo Ramos (October 18, 2019)
Due to the increasing size of Students for Smiles, we have made some changes to our Second Speaker Event. In order to accommodate all members by expanding the venue, this event has been moved to Friday, October 18th in Alvarado AB, TSU at 7pm. We apologize for any inconvenience this change may have caused! We hope that you will all be able to come out and listen to our guest speaker, Hugo Ramos, speak about his experience undergoing cleft palate surgery. Please come with any questions that you may have for him!

Our first titan walk of the semester! It was such a wonderful turn out of many students who stopped by and gave towards our cause and got a sweet little treat out of it :) All money we raised goes straight to our non profit partner SmileTrain.

Communication Science and Disorders "reunion" of its students all together for a few hours to mingle, network, and meet anyone new! It was a wonderful turn out of many students and faculty members who came by our table to meet us and check out our organization :)

September 4th-5th is our campus's discover fest. Students had the chance to meet up clubs/organizations and get to know them. We had the great pleasure of being able to part of this Fall's "club rush" and we give thanks to the student body who came by, learned about us, and now who we call members of this great organization!
