In order to participate in any CSU Drone Club event, you must be a member. Membership is open to all CSU students, faulty/staff, and alumni.
CSU Drone Club membership connects you to a group of like-minded individuals who all want to support the hobby of unmanned aircraft. You can come to flight days with us, try new aircraft, and have a lot of fun.
What are the perks of being a member?
First, membership allows you to attend and participate at our bi-weekly club meetings, where we offer all sorts of training, information, guest speakers, fun activities, and more.
Being a member also allows you to come out to our flight days and fly unmanned aircraft at Christman Airfield! Finding a place to fly your drone in Fort Collins, especially a fixed wing aircraft, is not easy. The CSU Drone Club has an agreement with CSU allowing our members access to their private airfield for hobbyist flight time, on our regular flight days. We also have regular indoor flight time after each club meeting. Mini-quads (<300 grams) can be flown/raced indoors at these events!
By becoming a member with the CSU Drone Club, you will also be eligible for a full AMA membership at a greatly discounted price. See more details below. In addition to all our club benefits, you will get all the benefits of being an AMA member too.
The CSU Drone Club is nationally affiliated with the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). The AMA is a non-profit organization, that promotes the hobby and sport of model aviation and provides many resources to their members.
Through our partnership with AMA, CSU Drone Club members will receive a full AMA membership for the discounted price of only $15/year (normally $75/year)! You will get all the benefits of a full Adult AMA membership, check those out HERE.
CSU Drone Club members are required to also have AMA membership. This allows us more flexibility through insurance coverage and safety programs.
Membership dues are $10/year (full calendar year). This supports club operational costs and fees. If you are not already an AMA member, the additional $15/year for AMA membership will be added to club dues. If you are already an AMA member you will only have to pay club dues.
Safety is very important to the CSU Drone Club. Once you become a member, you will be required to pass a short safety quiz to ensure you are familiar with all club rules and FAA regulations. The quiz is taken in person at the next club event. A presentation going over all safety guidelines and club basics can be found on the SAFETY page.
