Q: Do you only fly quad-copters?
A: No! We welcome and encourage all aspects of unmanned aviation! Some of our members only fly quads, some only fly fixed-wing, and many fly both.
Q: Do I have to own a drone to be a member?
A: No! Many of our current members own aircraft they are happy to let others fly. Drones can also be rented from the CSU Drone Center for use on flight days, details on there are HERE. We hoping to purchase some aircraft owned by the club in the future, that would be available for all members to use.
Q: Where does the drone club hold it's flight days?
A: We have an agreement with CSU to use Christman Airfield for Drone Club flight days. Our flight days can be found on the Events Page. Christman Airfield has very restrictive access as it is used for multiple purposes. Only active Drone Club members on designated flight days will have access to the airfield.
Q: Do I have to be a CSU Student to join?
A: Unfortunately, at this time membership is only open to CSU Students, faculty, staff, and alumni. In the future we hope to allow youth and community members to join. If you are not CSU affiliated but are very interested in our club and drones, please email us at csudroneclub@gmail.com. Circumstance dependent, we may be able to have you tag along for some flight days and some meetings under the supervision of a member.
Q: What is the price for membership?
A: In order to support various operational costs, membership dues are currently $10 annually. An additional $15 may also be required if you are not already an AMA member. More information can be found on the Membership page.
Q: Where can I view a copy of the club's constitution and bylaws?
A: The constitution and bylaws of the CSU Drone Club can be found HERE.
Q: What is the difference between the CSU Drone Club and CSU Drone Center?
A: The CSU Drone Club is a student organization for hobbyist UAS flight. The CSU Drone Center is a professional drone services provider on campus. The CSU Drone Center regularly aids departments across campus and the community with UAS research, aerial imagery, education, and much more. You can check out the CSU Drone Center at dronecenter.colostate.edu to learn more. Please do not contact the CSU Drone Center for matters related to CSU Drone Club or hobbyist UAS flight on campus.
Q: I don't have my Part 107 Certificate, but I want to get it. Do you teach any Part 107 classes?
A: Many of our members are certified Part 107 pilots, and would be happy to help answer questions - but we do not teach a class. The CSU Drone Center does however teach a Part 107 class! More details for their courses can be found at dronecenter.colostate.edu.
