Intervention Specialist Endorsement
Program Overview:
Thank you for your interest in the CSRA RESA Intervention Specialist Endorsement Program! The purpose of this program is to prepare educators to function as knowledgeable instructors who effectively provide interventions for academically at-risk students in Mathematics and English Language Arts classroom settings. The coursework will provide educators with an expansive toolbox for student and family engagement, effective strategies, and research-based instructional practices essential for meeting the needs of academically at-risk students in culturally and emotionally responsive learning environments.

Eligibility Requirements:
(a) To be eligible for the Intervention Specialist Endorsement, the applicant must: 1. Hold a level four (4) or higher renewable professional or Induction certificate in one of the following fields: Elementary Education; Special Education General Curriculum/Elementary Education; Middle Grades Language Arts; Middle Grades Math; or Special Education General Curriculum with a language arts and/or mathematics concentration.

Courses:
The Intervention Specialist Endorsement is comprised of three 50-hour courses that must be completed in the following sequence:
Course 1: Understanding Characteristics of At-Risk and the Impact on the Learner and Environment – 50 Hours: This course is designed to provide an overview of the role characteristics of at-risk has on student impacted by this classification. Understanding characteristics of the at-risk and the impact it has on the learner, family, and learning environment will be explored. In this course, we will examine major concepts, principles, theories, research on effective (developmentally and individually) appropriate instructional practices, and culturally and emotionally responsive learning environments to best serve academically at-risk learners.
Course 2: Scaling Delivery from Broad to Individual Learner Needs – 50 Hours: This course is designed to provide educators with an overview on developing and implementing curriculum that focuses on individual students’ needs and interest, takes into account culturally valued content, and students’ home experiences while ensuring correlation with Georgia Standards of Excellence and with content domains of the Georgia Milestones Assessment System. In this course, we will further examine major concepts, principles, and research on effective (developmentally and individually) appropriate instructional practices and culturally and emotionally responsive learning environments to best serve academically at-risk learners.
Course 3: Assessment and Program Implementation for the At-Risk – 50 Hours: This course is designed to provide educators with an understanding assessment, why it is important, and its uses in providing students with appropriately differentiated instruction. We will also engage determining multiple valid and reliable assessment tools and results to inform instructional practices. In this course, we will conclude our examination of major concepts, principles, theories, research on effective (developmentally and individually) appropriate instructional practices, and culturally and emotionally responsive learning environments to best serve academically at-risk learners.

Books and materials are included in regional cohorts. School Systems hosting in-district cohorts will be responsible for purchasing books and materials.
