Gifted Endorsement

Program Overview: 

Thank you for your interest in the CSRA RESA Gifted Endorsement Program! Our program provides teachers with an array of strategies and activities that encompass their ability to use content-specific pedagogy necessary to provide gifted students with challenging, differentiated learning environments.  A study of research, collaboration with other candidates, practical application lessons and units, and targeted discussions allow teachers to expand on pedagogy and theories and prepares them to successfully teach gifted students.

Eligibility: 

(a) To be eligible for the professional Gifted Endorsement, the applicant must hold a level four (4) or higher renewable professional certificate in any teaching field and complete other requirements outlined in GaPSC Rule 505-2-.14 ENDORSEMENTS

(b) To be eligible for the Supplemental Induction Gifted Endorsement, the applicant must hold a level four (4) or higher Induction certificate in any teaching field and complete other requirements outlined in GaPSC Rule 505-2-.14 ENDORSEMENTS

The Gifted Endorsement is comprised of four 50-hour courses that must be completed in the following sequence:

 

2. Methods and Materials for Teaching the Gifted – 50 Hours: Methods and Materials for Teaching the Gifted provides an understanding of instructional methods and material appropriate for meeting the unique learning needs of gifted students.  Strategies for differentiating content, process, product, and learning environment will be addressed in this course. 

 

3. Assessment of the Gifted – 50 Hours: Assessment of Gifted Students provides an overview of the various assessment tools used to identify the gifted learner. The course also prepares participants to use various types of classroom assessments appropriately to meet the needs of gifted students.   Assessments include diagnostic, formative, summative, and self-assessments. 

 

4. Curriculum and Program Development for the Gifted – 50 Hours: Curriculum and Program Development for the Gifted provides an overview of major program models and principles that govern the development of differentiated programming and curriculum for gifted students.  Participants will apply the principles as they plan, implement, and evaluate a unit of study in a gifted practicum setting. 

 

Program Textbooks: 

Books and materials are included in regional cohorts.  School Systems hosting in-district cohorts will be responsible for purchasing books and materials.
