Scouting America is committed to providing a safe environment for every Scout. Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT), formerly Youth Protection Training (YPT), is an essential part of that commitment.
Required Training: All registered adult volunteers must complete SYT as a condition of joining Scouting America.
Annual Renewal: SYT must be renewed every 12 months. Volunteers whose training is not current at membership renewal cannot be re-registered.
Pack 756 Expectation: All adults who regularly attend or participate in Pack 756 activities are expected to complete SYT annually, even when they are not required to register.
Parents and Guardians: Training is free and available to everyone. We strongly encourage all parents and guardians to complete it.
For additional information, visit Scouting America's Safeguarding Youth webpage.
Completing Safeguarding Youth Training is free and easy.
Visit My.Scouting.org and sign in or create a free account. You do not need to be a registered Scouting America member to complete the training.
From the My.Scouting homepage, launch Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) and complete the required course.
Upon completion, save or print your training certificate. Your completion record will also be associated with your Scouting America member ID.
Annual Refresher: Adults who have previously completed the full SYT course may qualify for the shorter annual refresher. Eligibility depends on their training status.
Reminder: All registered adult leaders must maintain current SYT certification to remain registered with Scouting America.
Protecting our Scouts begins with education and family involvement. Scouting America requires an age-appropriate Personal Safety Adventure for every Cub Scout rank, from Lion through Arrow of Light.
These adventures teach Scouts how to recognize unsafe situations, make safe decisions, and seek help from trusted adults.
Required Adventures by Rank:
Lion: Lion's Roar
Tiger: Tiger's Roar
Wolf: Safety in Numbers
Bear: Standing Tall
Webelos: My Safety
Arrow of Light: First Aid
Each adventure includes age-appropriate safety instruction, including the Protect Yourself Rules video.
Parents and guardians play an important role in completing these requirements. Some activities are completed at home, while others may be completed during den meetings.
Additional Parent/Guardian Requirement
Families must also complete the applicable child-protection activities in How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide, as required for the Bobcat Adventure.
Official Resources:
Please notify your den leader when required activities are completed at home so advancement can be recorded in Scoutbook.
