In this unit, I learned how databases store, organize, and manage information. I also learned how queries are used to search for specific data and how database systems help handle large amounts of information efficiently.
Database Management Systems (DBMS)
Records and Fields
Queries and searching data
Organizing and storing information
Databases and how they work
A DBMS is used to store, manage, and retrieve data efficiently.
Databases help organize and store large amounts of information.
Data is raw facts, while information is processed and meaningful data.
Queries are used to search, filter, and find specific information in a database.
Databases are commonly used in schools, banks, businesses, and social media.
Query
A query is a request used to search for specific information in a database.
Field
A field is one category or type of data stored in a database table.
Record
A record is a complete collection of related fields within a table.
(Dictionary.com, n.d.) (Noone, n.d.)
Data
Data consists of raw facts, values, or figures that have not been processed.
Knowledge
Knowledge is knowledge gained from learning, information, and experience.
Information
Information is organized and processed data that becomes meaningful and useful.
Wisdom
Wisdom is the ability to apply knowledge and experience to make good decisions.
DBMS (Database Management System)
A DBMS is software designed to create, organize, and manage databases.
Example: Data → Wisdom
Data: Individual facts or numbers, such as test scores.
Information: Organized results, such as an average score report.
Knowledge: Understanding what the results show or mean.
Wisdom: Using that understanding to improve future decisions or actions.
