Project Description:
To enhance our learning about databases by exploring the Library of Congress A-Z database, choosing a topic of interest, and answer questions on the discussion board.
I started by clicking on the category "Food and Nutrition," and this database of "Presidential Food" caught my eye. It offers many resources about the history of the food at the White House along with many different books about history of the culture, cookbooks, and historical menus. Interesting!
What is the URL of the database you are accessing?
https://guides.loc.gov/presidential-food/introduction
When you query the database, what type of information are you presented?
Text, images, books, and articles
Can you filter the results to help refine the results you receive?
Yes. I am able to type in the search query on the top right whatever I want to search for within the resource.
Can you sort the results by any criteria?
No, I only see that you can sort by topic.
What type of DBMS do you think they are using?
Relational. This type is used for cataloging data such as books, authors, subjects.
Lessons Learned:
I learned about the five different types of databases and how they are organized. Some examples include online banking transactions, online shopping carts, and streaming service recommendations of what to watch. We are retrieving information from databases all the time and just don't realize it!
