The CSB softball team started practice for the spring season this year on February 1st. They were excited to get back after it and start their new routine which included class and practice every day. Monday, Wednesday and Friday during their first block of classes (CSB adopted a block academic schedule this year to decrease cleaning demands and transportation from campus to campus due to COVID) are dedicated to full team practices and team weight lifting. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the team arrives in small groups to work on hitting or position specific defensive drills.
Pitching Coach Callie Nelsen recently had Achilles tendon surgery and we are using what we have learned from the pandemic to have her provide some remote instruction during this time of recovery.
Since our first games this year are not until mid March there has been a lot of focus on small details like footwork and glove fundamentals. This Friday the 12th will be our first time doing live hitting with our pitchers and hitters since October. Everyone always loves LIVE DAY!
February 3rd the team and others around the country celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The softball team decided to post current and throwback pictures of themselves playing softball to honor and acknowledge all the fond memories and relationships they have created over the years. We are thankful for for the athletes who have come before us to help create the opportunities we have today. We are proud of the present athletes and all of the advancements and accomplishments of the current era and we are hopeful for the future and all the positivity sports can bring for young women.
Alumnae Letter Initiative
On February 8th each of our young women received a letter from an alum. The letters ranged from some of our most recent graduates, to players from 30 years ago! The team was so excited to receive the notes and they reminded us of our big family. Thank you to all of the alumnae who took part in this, you are the best and we miss you!
