This is a web application using shinyapp to visualizes data. For this project we are visualizing the different types of energy sources generated by power plants and how much of it was generated. You can filter the data based on the state or even the entire country.
There is data for the different types of energy sources generated for the years 2000,2010, and 2018.
There are 3 different tabs(shown on the left), and each one has their own leaflet map. The first tab shows a leaflet map of all the power plants based on type that were in Illinois in 2018. The second shows two leaflet maps so you can compare data based on type of energy source, year, and state. The third tab is a map of the entire US, but in this one there is a slider so you can filter the data based on how much of that energy source was generated, it can even be different types of energy.
Also when clicking on the marker it shows the power plant name, and the percent of how much the energy generated is non-renewable or renewable.
Description
First Tab - IL leaflet Map
Above is a picture of the first tab. The first tab as mentioned above shows the different power plants and the type of energy source they generated in Illinois in 2018. You can use the check boxes on the left to filter the data based on the type of energy source you want to look at. There is also a check box to filter the data on whether the energy source is non-renewable or renewable. If you click the reset check boxes button it brings it unchecks all check boxes and checks the All checkbox which is the default shown.
Second Tab - Compare 2 Maps
Above is a picture of the second tab where you can compare two maps based on the type of energy source for the plant, the year, and the state. You can also change the style of the map. There are 3 different styles you can choose from.
One the key features of this tab is the "Link Checkboxes" check box, when you check it it links both check boxes. So when you click on Oil it'll check it for the other box and so on. If you want to compare different energy sources then just uncheck that check box or click the Reset Checkboxes button to bring it to the default.
By default the left map shows the power plants and types of energy source generated for the year 2000, and the right map shows the same but for the year 2018. Also the legend shows you the type of energy sources that are shown in the map and updates based on the type of source you want to look at.
Third Tab - US Map
For the third tab by default you see the map of US. This tab is similar to the rest with how you can filter the data based on the type of source the power plant is generating, the year, and the state or the US. However there is a slider at the bottom of the map that can be used to filter the markers based on how much of that energy source was generated.
You can do it for each individual energy source, or you can do it for all of them. The map updates as you switch the values in the slider.
Fourth Tab - About
Finally the last tab is just an about page, that shows by who the app was created and when.
It also gives a brief description of the project and where the data is from and what files were used.
