In a Brave New World (1980) there no information privacy as there are many moments when information about the characters is shown unknown to them. This occurs with characters such as Bernard, Helmholtz, and John Savage.
Bernard Marx is shown as a character who is abnormally different from the other residents in the World State. At the beginning of the story we see him only want one girl and only her, and how he doesn't want to engage with her unless they are only each others. His private information would later get spread around as many females start talking to the each other and about how Bernard only wants to engage with one female. These talks end up making their way to everyone in the World State, seemingly collected to a personal file of Marx that showcases any abnormal qualities and immoral actions. Everyone seems to know that Bernard Marx is different from them and is someone who spends a majority of their time alone. Bernard Marx is a great example of how your information has no privacy in the World State being collected and used via the government to examine your character as seen when Thomas attempts to relocate Bernard to Iceland using information collected without his knowledge.
Helmholtz Watson is a character that isn't the focal point of the story, however he is one of the most controversial characters in the world state as he talks to both Bernard and John about ideas of love and poetry and how he can use his docujingles and incorporate his ideas into them. We see Helmholtz's ideas in the docujingle he showcases to Mustapha, the head of World State, one man who shares some of the passions that Helmholtz has. Mustapha is big on Shakespeare and old literature that encourages ideas, something the World Order is not keen on. Helmholtz's sharing his passion of poetry with Bernard and John seems to be confidential information as he believes he can trust both John and Bernard, since he and Bernard had been friends looking out for each other as he had previously helped Bernard with his problem with Thomas and him trying to send him to Iceland. However, Bernard would later tell Mustapha about John's interactions with Helmholtz, using Helmholtz as an escape goat to take blame as to why John was unable to socially adapt to the world state. This is brought about via social engineering of Bernard as Bernard begins to turn his back on those who were great friends to him during the beginning of the film. This showcases the power of the world state and how they can mold someone to be who they want with Bernard becoming more similar to the rest of the world state from social engineering created via the computing devices such as reeducation films and soma pods, technology used to help create an idea of socially acceptable actions.
John Savage is an unknown character as he is one of the few characters not tracked digitally, however he is examined, with the world state seeing if when no education training is done, will a savage be able to adapt to society. John is unable to adapt to the lifestyle of the World State and is sent away to a location away from everything else where he can live on his own. This isolated lifestyle would be broken via a new tele feely film about the savage. This new tele feelie film would invade the Savages privacy causing many inhabitants of the World State visit his home in attempts to see him. This swarm would cause soma gas to be deployed, the deployment of gas incapacitated the female John was emotionally attached to. This would mentally effect John, leading him to take his own life in his house. This showcased the ideas of personal information and what happens when personal information has no privacy.
